Maasai Mara

The Mara, as folks fondly call it is every wildlife enthusiast’s dream. Derived from Maa Language, Mara means Spotted. No wonder its exceptional splendor speckles through out the year with the annual theatrical phenomenon of the wildebeest migration crowning the beauty just at the perfect season.

The Maasai Mara is home to an excellent year-round concentration of game. Covering a remarkable 1 115 km² (430 square miles), the Maasai Mara is a land of breathtaking vistas, abundant wildlife and endless plains. The indigenous Maasai community lives in this area and they too have thrilled the world in one of the most impressive way – that they have been able to maintain their culture for centuries despite the strong influence from the modern civilization.

The Masai Mara was made famous by the book Out of Africa by Karen Blixen, which was later made into a movie starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. It shares a border with Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and is essentially a continuation of this park, forming the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem.

Mara Highlights; The annual Great Migration, Renowned for its black-maned lions, Close-up sightings of cheetah, Scenic hot air balloon safaris across the vast plains and Excellent photographic opportunities
